North American Junior AM
The North American Junior Amateur Championship will be a five-day event from December 30, 2016 – January 3, 2017 and will have divisions for Boys and Girls age 13-19. 150 of the U.S., Mexico and Canada’s top qualified players will compete. The first two days will consist of 18 holes of stroke play each day. The field will then be cut to no more than 32 Boys and 32 Girls The last three days of the championship will be conducted as match play. Day 3 will start with 16 Boys matches and 16 Girls Matches. These matches will be 9 hole matches. The field will then be cut in ½ and another nine hole match will follow. The same format will occur on Day 4. The final day will be host to the top two Boys and Girls who will face off in an 18 hole match that will identify the North American Junior Champion.Junior Golf Scoreboard

After shuttling kids to and from Los Angeles to play in junior tournaments, John Brown and an original group of 50 young players started their own tournaments at the then Mission Valley Country Club in 1952. Two years later John asked a friend, Lou Smith, to take over day-to-day operations, which she did as Executive Secretary until 1986. John Brown became and remained President of the San Diego County Junior Golf Association for the next 33 years, then handed responsibility over to Norrie West, who remained President until 1993. Lou Smith passed on the torch to her daughter-in-law Joan Smith, who served the Association and its members for 40 years before retiring in the year 2000.
They, and a group of loyal volunteers gave kids the chance to play affordable golf and grow as individuals along the way. The original charter of the Association designed by John Brown and Lou Smith has remained relevant-and held up for 60 years:

The Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (OIJGC) - at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Florida - is one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world. Each year, more than 600 golfers participate in “THE OPTIMIST.” Optimists have been involved in the sport of junior golf for more than 30 years by holding local, regional and International tournaments. More than 5,000 golfers compete in official Optimist District qualifying tournaments. The best of these golfers, advance to the annual “OIJGC” representing approximately 30 countries.
