Open to boys and girls aged 8-18, the Southwest Junior Open (SJO) presented by PGA Tour Superstore promises to be an annual classic with Major Championship appeal. Junior Golf Scoreboard, a leader in junior golf rankings and results, acknowledge the SJO as a Ranked Tournament. They also have partnerships with the Pepsi Little People Golf Championships.
With player bags cresting above $54,000, the SJO winners prizes and awards will be hard to match. The SJO offers some of the best prizes and awards in Junior Golf. The SJO will offer many products and services from their industry leading partners like Dr Pepper/Snapple, and the PGA Tour Superstore.
Unlike any other junior tournament, the SJO will be played on three of the top ten public courses in North Texas. Located in The Colony about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, The Tribute Golf Club was ranked by Golf Digest as one of America's Top 100 public courses. The Golf Club at Castle Hills in Lewisville features rolling terrain with 60-foot elevation changes, shimmering lakes and large wetlands areas populated by wildflowers and native grasses. The Golf Club at Frisco Lakes is quickly establishing itself as a favorite among local golfers. Frisco Lakes features three of the best finishing holes anywhere that is sure to add to the excitement.
By playing on the weekend, the SJO has accommodated those families that have to work during the week. The SJO is being starts on Friday, July 17, 2009 and the final round will be played on Sunday, July 19, 2009.
Founded in 2009 by Universal Golf Solutions (UGS), the entry fee is $240 and includes an attractive tournament package. Registration opens April 17th and registration deadline is June 27th.
The UGS staff brings more than 20 years of experience with junior golf and event management. UGS has a passionate vision to provide the highest level of exposure to junior golfers across America. To that end, it has enlisted NCAA Division I and II men's and women's college golf coaches to the advisory board along with other renowned golf industry professionals.
UGS and the SJO have enlisted many partners for their inaugural event and will continue to add to this impressive list throughout the coming months. Partners such as PGA Tour Superstore, Dr Pepper/Snapple, New York Life, Texas Road House, Chick-Fil-A, Taylormade, Adidas, Southwest Greens, LTS Leader Boards, and Carlisle's Engraving already are on board. They have also enlisted their media partners to help promote this great event South Central Golf Magazine, DFW Links Magazine, Houston Links Magazine and Golfweek. A portion of the proceeds will go to the First Tee of Dallas.
UGS continues to add events with Major Championship experiences to its Junior Event Schedule. The burgeoning company plans their second Junior event in Tulsa, Okla., for Sept. 12-13 at Page Belcher Golf Club.
UGS also will highlight their 2010 events later this year that will include the Junior Masters, the Junior Open, Junior Open Championship, Junior Championship and their year-end National Championships. The UGS will offer Junior to compete against other top junior all across the nation with events stretching from Coast to Coast in 2010. All sites are TDB and will be finalized and released soon.
