2011 Junior Championship - Post Event News

The Junior Championship presented by PGA TOUR Superstore crowned their Champions in Tempe, AZ, and wrapped up the fouth Major Championship for 2011. Despite the 100+ temperatures each day we could not have asked for a better event. With the Junior Championship behind us and the trophies awarded, the crew is headed to our last event of the year in Naples, Florida. A special thank you to all the kids and their parents, you are what make our events so special. With the success of our 2011 events, we look forward to 2012 Junior Championship in Arizona.

Junior Championship – Post Event News…
Boys Championship Division Chris Petefish from Scottsdale, AZ, held on wire to wire to claim the Boys Championship Division. He shot a 68, 74 for a total of 142. Rounding out the top 3 was Jonathan Chang from Valencia, CA, and Matt Murphy also from California. Both finished one stroke shy of a playoff at 143.

Braden Bailey from Groves, TX, shot a two day total 152 for a 4 stoke victory over Chris Senna from Phoenix, AZ, and Riley Schank from Anthem, AZ, to complete the top 3. Braden-don’t let your caddie take credit for your victory.

The girls from Oklahoma traveled to Arizona and finish 1st and 2nd. We will give credit to their caddies on their outstanding finish. Kenda Mann from Newalla, Oklahoma, shot a 148 and Charter Lawson from Yukon, Oklahoma, shot 153 for runner up honors. Rounding out the top 3 was Sarah Thomas from Henderson, NV, with a two day total of 159.

Carly Akine from Glendale, AZ, claimed her Junior Championship victory with a two day total of 159. Following close behind from San Ramon, CA, was Kimberly Liu with a two day total of 165. Rounding out the top 3 was Molly Hughes from Scottsdale, AZ, and Sarah Eversman also from Scottsdale, AZ, with a two day total of 167.

It was Jeffrey Miller claiming another junior golf championship victory in his new home state (Arizona) with a two day total 147. This is Jeffrey’s 3rd year with us and it is good to see him in the winners circle again. We had JJ Gresco from Scottsdale, AZ, trying to close the gap in his final round but came up short to claim runner up honors with a two day total of 151. Capping off the top 3 was Chandler, AZ, favorite Andrew Proctor finishing with a two day total of 156.

The Girls 12-13 division came down to a playoff between Mikayala Fitzpatrick from Phoenix, AZ, and Ocean Pangan from Scottsdale, AZ, with Mikayala holding off Ocean for her first Junior Championship victory. They both finished with two day totals of 189.

We had a close race in our Boys 10-11 Division. Throughout the weekend the leader board was full of players from Scottsdale, AZ, and this division was no different. However it was awesome to see 12 different states represented in this 2011 Junior Championship. Mason Nam from Scottsdale, AZ, held off a strong charge to claim the victory with a two day total of 150. It was Cam Sandland from Phoenix, AZ, with a two day total of 155 finishing with runner up honors. Rounding out 3rd place was Dominic Wade another Scottsdale player with a two day total of 157.

The Boys 8-9 Division was won by Thomas Velarde from Chandler, AZ, with a two day total of 168. It was Jarrod Johnson making a long trip from Columbia Falls, MT, to win runner up honors. I look forward to seeing this rematch in 2012.

We would like to congratulate all players on their Junior Championship finish and we would like to thank our partners for their continued support of junior golf.
