Junior Open presented by PGA TOUR Superstore Champions Awarded

The Junior Open presented by PGA TOUR Superstore crowned their Champions in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to finish the second Major Championship of 2011. With the 1st Annual Junior Open completed and the trophies awarded, the champions are off to their next event of the summer. We could not have asked for a better event in South Carolina. The course at Wachesaw East Plantation was outstanding and the staff/volunteers were the best we’ve seen to date.

This event kept the momentum going after our Junior Masters in Atlanta and we carry it forward to the next Major Championship. We look forward to our next Major, the Junior Open Championship held in Dallas, Texas July 16-17th at the Tribute Golf Club. The Junior Open Championship is a 36 hole event like our others played on a top 100 course with AJGA Exemptions, GOLFWEEK Ranking, and Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking. This event was the Southwest Junior Open prior to the rebranding and will represent our third Major of the year with our Junior Open Championship. We played the Tribute this week and it’s in outstanding shape!

We are amazed at the global participation and our domestic attendance at our Junior Masters in Atlanta (10 States, 2 Countries) and our recent Junior Open in Myrtle Beach (9 States, 2 Countries). With an overwhelming response from our participants we look forward to our Junior Open Championship July 16-17 in Dallas, TX.

The Junior Open produced 10 new Champions that can be found on our new Champions banner located on our home page (website).

Boys Championship Division kept it close with Brady Phillips winning with a 152 for the weekend. This course was great for our Junior Open…it was playing tight with fast greens. That was a perfect recipe to mirror the US Open.

It was apparent after viewing Ross Robison’s final round scorecard he would be our Boys 14-15 Champion. Ross Robison from Wilmington, NC, played very well both days to finish with a two day total of 150 and captured the Junior Open trophy.

The Girls 14-15 division Champion Kallie Gonzales from Texas made the trip to Myrtle Beach and was successful at capturing the Girls 14-15 division with a two day total score of 153. This trophy and flag will go nicely with her Green Jack from the Junior Masters in Atlanta. Next stop, Junior Open Championship???

Chase Cutshall in the Boys 12-13 Division made the trip from Melbourne, FL, to win with a two day total 151.

Megan Sabol from Georgia captured her Junior Open crown in the Girls 12-13 Division. She had recent JGC Champions challenging her throughout the weekend but held on for the victory. She held on to the title by winning the Junior Open trophy in her division with a two day total score of 154 and made that her second Major victory for 2011. She also dons the Green Jacket from the Junior Masters.

Tyler Lipscomb from Carrollton, GA, made the course look easy scoring a 76 day one and a 69 day two to capture the Boys 10-11 Division trophy. This was redemption since he was injured and could not compete during our Junior Masters in his backyard.

The Girls 10-11 group crowned Kayla Parsons from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina after a SC playoff and Parker Stalvey from Elgin, South Carolina, took runner up honors.

Connery Meyer from Marietta, GA, and Kevin Smith from Wallingford, PA, both made the trip to Myrtle Beach to compete for the Junior Open trophy. Only one would win. With a 74 the first day and a total score of 154, Connery was able to capture another Major Championship victory since winning his Junior Masters green jacket. With Kevin Smith capturing second place, it was great competition to watch.

Michaela Morard from Huntsville, AL, claimed the trophy for the Girls 8-9 Division.

We would like to congratulate all players on their finish in our Junior Open presented by PGA TOUR Superstore. We felt a strong bond with the families and participants at our Junior Open and we look forward to seeing everyone next year when we host our second annual Junior Open presented by PGA TOUR Superstore.
