Southwest Junior Open - 2010 Champions
The Southwest Junior Open has come to a close. We crowned 10 Champions and awarded numerous prizes. This was an outstanding event with over 8 states being represented. It was great to see players from South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, and Texas participate in this years Southwest Junior Open. We are in preparation to expand our events into more markets in 2011 and grow our recurring events from 2010.This was by far our best event to date. The heat was our only challenge and it caused some minor delays from greens keepers holding up play throughout the round to water greens to keep them alive. We play this event on the British Open weekend at the Tribute Golf Club because it’s built around the best 18 British Open holes. We always have a breeze or strong winds. We very rarely play that course and don’t experience some type of breeze. It was very calm all weekend with the heat index hovered around 105-110 each day.
The pure numbers to operate this event were staggering. We used 4000lbs of ice for the three days and 160 cases of water. The dinner didn’t require as much water but we used 30 cases of soft drinks and 5 cases of water. We served 75 Pizza Hut Pizzas to all players, parents, and guests. It was outstanding to see the tennis court inside the PGA TOUR Superstore with standing room only during our raffle drawing.
This event is our original event and after its first year in existence we garnered Golfweek Ranking, Junior Golf Score Board Ranking, and AJGA Exemptions. That says a lot for a second year event. We will continue our goal of building/operating our events where junior golfers and families look forward to participating.
